Matthew DeAnda’s cycling story began long before he ever pinned on a number. Growing up around road bikes thanks to his grandparents—who rode the Oklahoma Freewheel every year since its early days—cycling was always in the background. At the time, Matthew’s focus was on ball sports, especially baseball, but that foundation would eventually pull him back to the bike.
In 2019, while in college and feeling burned out on competitive baseball, Matthew went looking for a new challenge. He started running, dusted off his grandfather’s old road bike, and signed up for the Oklahoma Freewheel—a week-long ride across the state from the Texas border to Kansas. That decision changed everything. What began as trying something new quickly turned into a love for cycling that’s still growing.
Since then, Matthew has raced across multiple disciplines, including gravel, road, and crits, and has completed several multi-day bike tours. He brings versatility and resilience to the bike, shaped by both endurance and competition.
Off the bike, Matthew values time with family, studying the Bible, and getting outdoors. Camping and fishing are among his favorite ways to reset, reflecting a grounded approach that carries over into his racing mindset.
His goals are clear: continue moving up the race categories and be competitive wherever he lines up. Fueled by faith and consistency, Matthew rides with purpose and patience.
Fun fact: Matthew is a twin.
