Bobby J. Hiebert, Jr.

Racer

Hometown: Junction City, Kansas (Originally from Hillsboro, Kansas)
How He Got Into Cycling: Growing up in a small town, Bobby didn’t have much need for a car; he and his friends used bikes to get everywhere. His high school days were filled with dreams of the Tour de France, inspired by his sports hero Greg LeMond. After years away from cycling, Bobby returned to the bike when he and his wife began training for triathlons, sparking a love for cycling that stuck with him even after they left triathlons behind.

Cycling Experience: After rekindling his love for the bike in 2015, Bobby decided to take his passion to the next level, starting criterium racing in 2022. His first race was Cycle 66 in Oklahoma, November 2023.

Strengths: Determination defines Bobby’s approach to cycling. His focus is always on growth and pushing beyond his limits. The resilience he’s built through training has also enhanced his self-confidence and inspired him to set goals both in and out of racing.

Team Contribution: Bobby is known for his selfless attitude, always ready to support his teammates in whatever capacity they need. A dependable and generous presence, Bobby is quick to help others succeed, never hesitating to put his own ambitions aside for the greater team success.

Personal Interests: Outside of cycling, Bobby has a passion for fly tying and bird watching—a hobby that earned him the nickname “Bobby Birdman.”

Goals: Bobby’s goal is simple: to support the Apogee ATP team in every way possible. In the long term, he dreams of standing on the podium at least once, dedicating that victory to his high school best friend who passed away twenty years ago.

Fun Facts: Bobby has a deep affection for his gray cat, Minnie, who has become something of a mascot for him. He enjoys calling her name in funny ways, often in public, just to amuse (or embarrass) his wife. Minnie even inspired the name of his carbon racing bike, and if he upgrades, the next bike will be dubbed “Shockeytoesocks,” after a quirky childhood nickname from his wife and Minnie’s toe-sock-like markings.
